The pituitary gland, a pea-sized "master gland" at the base of the brain, controls other endocrine glands and vital functions like growth, metabolism, and reproduction by producing and releasing hormones, guided by the hypothalamus. It has two main parts—the anterior lobe, which secretes hormones like growth hormone (GH), prolactin, TSH, ACTH, FSH, and LH, and the posterior lobe, which releases ADH (for water balance) and oxytocin (for childbirth/bonding).  Dysfunction can lead to serious issues like gigantism or Cushing's syndrome but is often treatable with medication or surgery.
