Colic is intense, prolonged crying in a healthy baby, often for 3+ hours/day, 3+ days/week, for 3+ weeks, typically in evenings, with no clear cause, usually resolving by 3-4 months.  Symptoms include loud, inconsolable crying, clenched fists, arched back, and a tense belly, with causes potentially linked to developing nervous systems, sensitivity, or gas. Management focuses on soothing techniques like swaddling and rocking, but seeing a doctor first to rule out illness is crucial, as stress and parental exhaustion are common side effects.
