Convulsions are uncontrollable, rapid muscle contractions and relaxations causing body shaking, often a symptom of a seizure, but can stem from fever, head injury, infection, or other conditions. While often used interchangeably with seizures, convulsions are the physical manifestation (shaking) and not all seizures involve them, nor do all convulsions come from epilepsy. They are a medical event signaling abnormal brain activity and require understanding the underlying cause, such as epilepsy, trauma, or high fever, for proper management.
